What is media literacy?

According to the definition from wikipedia, It is not limited to being a medium, it is understood as a set of competencies essential to work, life and citizenship. It is used to improve media literacy skills. It is an interdisciplinary, global community of media scholars and educators.

Why is it important?

Because most of the information nowadays comes from the Internet, and students’ use of online information as well as tools plays a key role. For example, they know how to create accounts, share content, and communicate with others.

Because it helps students learn to think judgmentally, when they evaluate media, they judge the information. They think about the meaning of it. Later will learn to use examples to support their opinions and thus help make decisions.

Identify with the viewpoint. Each creator will have his or her own independent point of view. And identifying their point of view can help student appreciate different perspectives.

What is the benefit of having a PLN that values media literacy?

A better online learning environment can be created. Media literacy requires the ability and skills to find and evaluate information for communication. For example, students know the resources that can be used and analyzed when learning, such as some links.
